How to Style a Blanket Ladder: Cozy, Functional & Beautiful Reading Meet the Maker: A Conversation With Jala, Founder of Seek & Swoon 4 minutes

When you wrap up in a Seek & Swoon throw, you’re not just getting cozy — you’re holding a story. I started this brand to combine my love of travel, design, and sustainability into something beautiful and meaningful. Every pattern and color palette tells a story inspired by the places I’ve visited and the moments that have shaped me. It’s just me behind Seek & Swoon, so I wanted to share a little about how it all began, what inspires my designs, and what keeps me cozy these days.

✈️ The Beginning: A Family Adventure Turned Brand Inspiration

Q: How did Seek & Swoon get started?

A: In 2016, my family and I took a two-month sabbatical to Europe. As we traveled through cities like Reykjavik, Amsterdam, and Barcelona, I found myself constantly inspired by architecture, colors, and patterns — things that told a story about a place. I came home with a camera roll full of inspiration and the idea to create something that captured those moments in a tangible way. That’s how Seek & Swoon was born — throws inspired by travel and made sustainably right here in the U.S.

🧶 Designing With Heart and Purpose

Q: What inspires your designs?

A: Every throw begins with a story — a city, a memory, or even a feeling. I love finding beauty in the details, like the rooftops of Budapest that inspired the Kaland Throw or the natural landscapes of Iceland behind the Reika Throw. I start with color and pattern, then translate that inspiration into something that feels modern but timeless. I also think a lot about how someone will use the throw — I want it to be something you reach for every day, whether you’re curling up with your kids or dressing up your guest room.

🌱 Why Sustainability Matters

Q: Sustainability seems to be at the core of Seek & Swoon. Why is that important to you?

A: I’ve always believed that small businesses can lead by example. Our throws are knit from recycled cotton yarn that comes from pre-consumer textile waste — essentially leftover fabric that’s been given new life. We make everything in small batches at a family-owned knitting mill in the U.S. That means less waste, less shipping, and more connection between maker and customer.

💛 A Labor of Love (and Cozy)

Q: What’s your favorite part of running Seek & Swoon?

A: The stories people share with me. Customers tell me about gifting a blanket to a new mom, sending one across the country to a friend, or using one during chemo treatments. It’s incredible to see how something so simple can hold so much meaning. Knowing that these blankets become part of people’s lives and memories keeps me inspired

✨ The Biggest Surprise

Q: What’s surprised you most about building Seek & Swoon?

A:
Honestly, how loyal my customers are. I expected people to fall in love with their blankets — but I didn’t expect them to come back again and again. Some customers have five or six throws in their homes, and I even have one who’s made 25 purchases! That kind of connection is incredibly humbling. It tells me that people aren’t just buying a blanket — they’re collecting stories, gifting comfort, and making Seek & Swoon part of their lives.

Seek & Swoon is more than a collection of blankets — it’s a collection of stories. From recycled cotton yarn to your living room, each piece is designed to make your world a little cozier, a little more colorful, and a lot more meaningful.
